DeRosa, Wilfred Acton Funeral Home "Wil," age 85, of Maynard, died after a brief illness on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the LifeCare Center of Acton. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of the late Mary Alice (Lawrence) DeRosa, who died in 1999. Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Antonio and Goldie (Rozansky) DeRosa. He was raised in Everett where he attended public schools and was an outstanding student athlete, which led to his admission to Boston College. His college career was cut short by WWII, when he was inducted into the US Army and served his country in the 103rd Reconnanissance Troop in Central Europe. After the war he resumed his college career and once again enjoyed a sucessful football career as a running back. He earned his master's degree from Boston State Teacher's College, and was employed by the Maynard Public Schools as a teacher and football coach. During his 28 years career at Maynard High School, he served as coach, teacher and administrator wher he provided a positive experience for all of his students until his retirement in 1979. Mr. DeRosa is survived by five children: Douglas DeRosa & wife Mary, Carol Viola & husband Robert, William DeRosa, Robert DeRosa & wife Anna, & Cindy Hollohan & husband Greg; a brother, Frank DeRosa; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, & many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Samuel DeRosa and Ann Gaspari. All were invited to visiting hours on Thursday, May 8th from 4:00-8:00pm athe Acton Funeral Home, 470 Mass Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 9th at 9:00am in St. Bridget's Church, corner of Percival and Sudbury Streets, Maynard. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery, Rte 117/Great Road, Maynard. Those who wish may make memorial contributions in Mr. DeRosa's name to the Maynard High School Athletic Department, 1 Tiger Drive, Maynard, MA. 01754.
