LoPiccolo, Carol (Thiel) Acton Funeral Home passed away peacefully in her home on March 15, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Phil, her devoted children, Emily and Christopher, and her many loving extended family members and friends. Carol is the daughter of Ward Thiel and the late Miriam Thiel and is the sister of Mark Thiel. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated from Brecksville High School in Ohio and received her B.S. in Nursing from Kent State University. During her training, she worked at an elder care facility and a veterans psychiatric hospital. Her first nursing position was at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.She moved to Boston in 1980 and worked as a nurse at Children’s Hospital, caring for children with renal, urology, and psychiatric disorders. She received her M.S. in Social Work from Simmons College in Boston and worked on the psychiatric unit at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. She moved to Acton in 1990, and has since served the community as a therapist, most recently at Spectrum Psychological Associates in Acton. She was a talented pianist and artist, and she loved gardening and drawing flowers. She also loved camping, hiking, and traveling with her family throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life was held at Acton Congregational Church on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at 2:00 p.m with a reception following at the LoPiccolo home. Calling hours were held in the Acton Congregational Church parlor on Saturday, April 19, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. For those who wish, donations may be made in Carol’s memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445. |
